Innovative New Zealand apple brand, Rockit, has partnered with Amplify and iconic Dubai-based artist, Dina Sami, to make the traditional Muslim month of fasting and prayer – Ramadan – unforgettable.

Premium miniature apples have been packed into 17,000 delightful Ramadan-inspired Rockit promotional boxes showcasing Dina’s work. Now on sale both in store and online across the Middle East, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Rockit Market Manager for the Middle East, Ziad El Chawa, says the holy month of Ramadan, which is observed during April, is a time for families and friends to gather. Many offer gifts as a reflection of the generosity which is a hallmark of this most sacred month. 

“With fasting occurring between sunrise and sunset, Rockit™ apples are a popular option among families to fuel them through their fast,” says Ziad. “A three-day Eid Al Fitr occurs at the end of this holy month, which is also the perfect opportunity to enjoy Rockit’s delicious, crisp and juicy apples.”

He says the creative interpretation of Ramadan by Dina – a depiction of a modern Muslim family against a night sky background – encourages purchasers to “give a little goodness” with Rockit. “We loved the instant appeal of this artwork – it’s fresh, contemporary and colourful which really stands out in store and across our digital channels.” 

General Manager Global Sales, Mark Pay, says Rockit™ apples have been growing in popularity within Middle Eastern countries – sold in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait – with the Ramadan campaign looking set to boost awareness further.

“Sales are certainly surging within this high growth market,” he says. “We were up 47% on the previous year in 2021, and orders for the 2022 season are already exceeding our expectations.”

“It’s exciting to see millions of nutrition-driven consumers choosing Rockit, as well as an ever-increasing family of retailers, who see the uptake and want to be part of the magic. Amplify supported FIJI Water Middle East’s first event of 2022. With the event sponsorship of the 12th edition of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge on Saturday 19th February 2022. 

The UCI Gran Fondo World Series Event, saw thousands of cyclists take to the streets of Dubai, with a course spanning 94.8 kilometres across the city.

Throughout the ride, cyclists took in the iconic sites of Dubai, passing by the world’s greatest show at Expo 2020 and Global Village. Before heading home to Dubai Sports City and the Spinneys’ Eat Well Live Well Village. FIJI Water was on hand with 700ml Sports Cap bottles to greet the athletes upon completion of the race.

Amplify Marketing Agency, was appointed in late 2019 following a pitch process which awarded the agency with the contract across the Middle East. Following on from the success across the region, Amplify was later awarded the UK contract just months later. 

Now, going into the third year of working with the brand, Amplify are excited to develop the over-arching regional brand strategies for the Californian based company group, as well as devising creative 360 degree marketing campaigns across both markets.

Rockit Back to School campaign and selling season boom in Middle East

Congratulations to our innovative New Zealand-based snack sized apple company, Rockit™ Apple! Who is continuing to pack a punch with sales up almost 70% year on year in the Middle East during its annual Rockit Back to School Campaign and high season sales period.

The MENA (Middle East North Africa) region is a critical market to Rockit as it continues to strengthen its presence there. Selling across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar. The snack sized apples have been a sensation, particularly among health-conscious families.

As Middle East-based parents prepared children for the back-to-school period, from the end of August 2021, Rockit ramped up its marketing efforts. Partnering with Amplify to deliver a punchy campaign to drive sales both in-store and online.

Rockit Global Limited’s GM Global Sales, Mark Pay, says sampling took place in 30 key stores, with teams handing out more than 14,000 apples to captivated customers. “Obviously we were working around the challenges and limitations shaped by Covid-19 restrictions with strict protocols developed and adhered to,” says Mark. “That meant each gifted apple was housed in its own single serve sample box. It was also an opportunity to highlight our e-commerce platforms, launching 10 online promotions over the period”.

“During our busiest month, from 6-30 September, sales in the region rocketed by 69%, when compared to the same period last year. We couldn’t be happier with the result, and with the knowledge that thousands of new Rockit customers were able to experience our delicious, nutritious fruit for the first time.”

The cross-channel marketing campaign saw 56 in-store point of sale displays, over 7,000 hits on the Rockit Back to School Campaign themed landing page at www.rockitapple.com and overall web sessions up a massive 87%.

“Our digital marketing efforts were also rewarded, with thousands of new social followers to our Instagram page @rockitapplearabia and thousands of new newsletter subscribers in the region. Our kids’ colouring competition was downloaded 25,000 times. It’s been exciting to see the growth happen in real time over the course of the campaign.”

Mark says Rockit plans to continue expanding its presence in the MENA region through relationships with retailers and importers. “The world is changing fast, so our efforts are concentrated on both online and offline stores,” says Mark. “We’ll be pursuing new partnerships through 2021 and 2022, given the success we’ve already seen to date through leading fruit retailers including Lulu Supermarkets, Kibsons and Spinneys.”
